Inter-house basketball
A hard fought inter-house basketball for Y13 this morning. Results aren’t out yet but I couldn’t fault our teams on effort – our Y13s can certainly be proud that they gave it 100% effort! I’ll post the results on samuireddragons.posterous.com when they come out.
Fun Run
Great news from the Fun Run. We had the second most runners out there!
· 1st = Lanta 69 runners
· 2nd = Samui 65 runners
· 3rd = Phuket 54 runners
· 4th = Chang 52 runners
Well done to everyone who took part on Sunday. It was great to see so many of you out there in your Samui T-shirts! And only 4 runners behind Lanta – if you didn’t run this year maybe you can join us next year so we can win!
Red Day
A big thank you to everyone for following the non-uniform guidelines for Red Day last Friday. I was delighted to see not a single strappy top or a single pair of short shorts. Nice to see that the Dragons are responsible enough to come in appropriate attire! (Unlike some houses… )
Recycling
Recycling is going extremely well for us this year, especially for our KS3 students who’ve made a superb effort to bring stuff in from home. No scores yet but I’m confident that we’re in first place in the recycling competition and well on track for 100 House Points at the end of Term 1 – a distinct improvement on last year’s fourth place! Well done to everyone who’s brought things in – it’s good for the planet and good for Samui.
Top KS3 recyclers so far this term are:
· Serri, Beryl and Yae Rim in 7T
· Gabby and Saranya in 7P
· Lauren in 8G
· Victoria and Vanessa in 8M
· Sarah in 9S
· Ryan and Janice in 9P
And the top KS3 recycling tutor group is 7T who all win Samui wrist bands for a truly amazing amount of recycling!
Let’s not get complacent though – keep the recycling flowing in; it would be great to see a bit more from our KS4 and 5 students too.
House Writing Competition
One area where we could be doing a bit better is for the House Writing Competition. I’ve only had a few entries from KS3 so far and none from KS4 and 5. Remember there’s House Points for the best stories but also House Points available for participation, so you don’t have to be J. K. Rowling to send in an entry. Please e-mail me with your stories before the deadline on Tuesday 25th October.
The Lost House
Most people are too young to remember that there used to be 5 Houses at Bangkok Patana School and there is a very good reason why people no longer talk about it. When you hear the story of what happened to Samet House you’ll understand why no one talks about it anymore. So…
Ø Create an interesting and descriptive account of what happened to Samet House.
Ø You have a maximum of 500 words so you’ll have to be brief and highly creative at the same time.
Ø Do not use actual teacher or student names.
Ø The House with the most entries win bonus points and there are also House points available for 1st-4th place for KS3 and a KS4/5 competition.
Credits and Commendations
And don’t forget that all of you can support Samui House every day by (politely!) reminding your teachers to give out credits and commendations.
GOOO Samui!
